Goin’ to New Orleans Music and Lyrics by Jim Love It’s been too damn long since we went away together Time to ditch the cold and snow and find some sunny weather Let’s catch our favourite band, let’s hit the music scene Come on baby let’s go to New Orleans… Come on baby let’s go to New Orleans Come on baby let’s go to New Orleans Pack your bag, grab your coat Lock the door and leave a note Tell the folks we’ve gone to New Orleans When we walk down Bourbon Street we’ll smile at everyone we meet, Come on baby - let’s go to New Orleans You can’t help but tap your feet, when you hear that Creole beat Playin’ in the streets of New Orleans Come on baby let’s go to New Orleans Come on baby let’s go to New Orleans Pack your bag, grab your coat Lock the door and leave a note Tell the folks we’ve gone to New Orleans We’ll go out and get in line for Preservation Hall Come baby let’s go to New Orleans Love to hear that southern drawl, love to hear them say y’all Y’all y’all we gone to New Orleans Come on baby let’s go to New Orleans Come on baby let’s go to New Orleans Pack your bag, grab your coat Lock the door and leave a note Tell the folks we’ve gone to New Orleans Instrumental When we walk down Bourbon Street, we’ll smile at everyone we meet, Come on baby let’s go to New Orleans You can’t help but tap your feet when you hear that Creole beat Playin’ in the streets of New Orleans And we’re playin’ in the streets of New Orleans We’re playin’ in the streets of New Orleans…

Down To the River Music and Lyrics by Jim Love Let me take you, down to the river Lead me gently by the hand... Hold me tight – cold water rushes over Filling me with understanding... I have been a prophet in the desert, I have felt the burning sun I have walked a million tired footsteps, that took me back where I'd begun Freezing cold standing in the darkness, starlight blazing in my eyes I have heard, the choirs of the angels, singing in the star-filled skies, they sang… Let me take you, down to the river Lead me gently by the hand... Hold me tight – cold water rushes over Filling me with understanding... Forty days, and forty lonely night times, with just my hunger as my friend... I have felt the power of temptation, and I have seen the very ending ... (of my life) Let me take you, down to the river Lead me gently by the hand... Hold me tight – cold water rushes over Filling me with understanding... Here I stand, I’m looking at the river, there's a man down by the shore I look up, his eyes lock into mine, my life is changed forever more, when he says Let me take you, down to the river, Lead me gently by the hand... Hold me tight – as the water rushes over Filling me with understanding... Filling me with understanding Filling me….

Highway to Nowhere Music and Lyrics by Jim Love Lord let me ride on a highway to nowhere Keep my foot on the gas Put the top down And race out of town… Going nowhere fast The sun in the sky is blinding my eyes, The sky is a crystal blue A beautiful day for just slipping away Just me and you Lord let me ride on a highway to nowhere Keep my foot on the gas Put the top down And race out of town… Going nowhere fast Riding along with the radio on Listen to the Canoe Singing along to an old Beatles song Just me and you… Lord let me ride on a highway to nowhere Keep my foot on the gas Put the top down And race out of town… Going nowhere fast I feel your hand on the back of my neck With a hot summer breeze blowing through A wide-open road ahead of us now Just me and you Lord let me ride on a highway to nowhere Keep my foot on the gas Put the top down And race out of town… Going nowhere fast Going nowhere fast Going nowhere…

Cruisin' 05:11
Cruisin’ Music and Lyrics by Jim Love Johnny did a thing with a toothpick, he made it twirl like an acrobat Eddy was riding shotgun in a 63 Pontiac And me I’m sitting in the backseat – laughing as we pulled from the light We were looking for fun, we were loaded for bear, we were the kings of Friday night. And we were cruising yeah. We were cruising yeah. We were cruising yeah. We were cruising yeah There goes Debbie Foreman, she’s coming out of the Appalon She’s got long red hair and big green eyes and legs that go on and on And I could swear she smiled me, but maybe it was just the light It may not be real, but it made me feel like the king of Friday night. And we were cruising yeah. We were cruising yeah. We were cruising yeah. We were cruising yeah Ah, sweet, sweet summer night and we’re cruising yeah, Ah. Flashing neon lights and we’re cruising yeah, Ah. Nothing going on in this one-horse town, Ah, roll the windows down and we’ll cruise downtown, cruising round… And we’re cruising… Johnny leaned back and he looked at me and he’s wearing this great big grin She’s out of your league, you’re dreaming boy, but I wasn’t listening Cause anything is possible, on a sweet, sweet summer night When you’re rolling along with the windows down – with the kings of Friday night. And we were cruising yeah. We were cruising yeah. We were cruising yeah. We were cruising yeah Ah, sweet, sweet summer night and we’re cruising yeah, Ah. Flashing neon lights and we’re cruising yeah, Ah. Nothing going on in this one-horse town, Ah, roll the windows down and we’ll cruise downtown, cruising round… And we’re cruising… And we were cruising yeah. We were cruising yeah. We were cruising yeah. We were cruising yeah….(fade out)

Lifeline (Chopper’s Song) Music and Lyrics by Jim Love In the night when the demons come, frozen fears, nowhere to run You always knew just what to do, you were there to see me through You could chase the fears away, you would wipe the tears away Can you help me just one more time? Can you throw me a lifeline? Come and throw me a lifeline – tell me everything will be just fine Make me smile just one more time, hold me tight till the morning time All alone and in our bed, crazy pictures running through my head You know I’m hanging on by a thread, can throw me a lifeline? It’s a story of teenage love, what a cheerleader’s dreams are made of Drew your picture a thousand times, hoping I could make you mine Late at night I tried to sleep, had a dream about you and me I dreamed I was lost at sea, and you threw me a lifeline Come and throw me a lifeline – tell me everything will be just fine Make me smile just one more time, hold me tight till the morning time All alone and in our bed, crazy pictures running through my head You know I’m hanging on by a thread, can throw me a lifeline? All the rest is memory, of the days with you and me Through the joys and through the pain, and the things I never could explain I remember that final day, I saw you smile, and I heard you say You wouldn’t trade a single day. You threw me a lifeline [Come and throw me a lifeline – tell me everything will be just fine Make me smile just one more time, hold me tight till the morning time All alone and in our bed, crazy pictures running through my head You know I’m hanging on by a thread, hoping… just one more time, you can throw me a lifeline

Last Man Standing Music and Lyrics by Jim Love He feels like the last man standing, as he steps to the mike on stage And he plays in this bar, on a Martin guitar, both of them showing their age The crowd is so loud, they’re not listening at all, The noise nearly drowns out the songs But every once in a while, there’s a hit of a smile - and somebody singing along La la la la la la, la la la la la la, la la la la la la la La la la la la la, la la la la la la, la la la la la la la There once was a time as a much younger man, when people all said he’d go far He was all of the rage, as he stepped on the stage annd played that new Martin guitar Is it choices we make, or the paths that we take That take us right back where we are? Tired and lonely and all you’ve got is only - a beat up old Martin guitar La la la la la la, la la la la la la, la la la la la la la La la la la la la, la la la la la la, la la la la la la la Instrumental Now he stands all alone at the end of the night, and he stares at the glass on the bar He’s lost in his thoughts, and he’s drinking a scotch and he’s thinking he’ll pack up the car All the others are gone - Stan, Willie and Ron, and all that’s left are the songs And every once in a while there’s the hint of a smile and somebody singing along La la la la la la, la la la la la la, la la la la la la la La la la la la la, la la la la la la, la la la la la la la La la la, la la la, la….

Total Eclipse of the Moon Music and Lyrics by Jim Love Tonight is a night like no other has been With a cold that can cut like a knife As I walk down the road, silent, alone In the beautiful still of the night My heart is singing, my life’s just beginning I'm rushing – I'm high as a kite... A lone wolf calls and darkness falls And I'm born in the loss of the light And the shadow creeps over the white shining glow The darkness will fall on us soon It’s a cold winter night, and we’re losing the light In a total eclipse of the moon There's a billion stars that have all been revealed And they cover the black velvet sky There's a light that's so white and as cold as the night And you feel like it’s piercing your eyes My mind is reeling, I’m caught in a feeling The feeling that time has stood still I can almost believe that my soul has been freed, I can feel it rise up from that hill Interlude Was a long time ago, I stood out in the snow As a child looking up at the sky And a sweet mystery, unfolded for me As the moon bid its silent goodbye Through all of the years, I'm am still moved to tears By that moment that touched my heart so It won't go away, I'm still haunted today By a music that plays in my soul.. Now the shadow creeps over the white shining glow The darkness will fall on me soon It's a cold winter night, and we’re losing the light In a total eclipse of the moon It's a cold winter night, and I'm losing the light, In a total eclipse of the moon

Secord Street Music and Lyrics by Jim Love There is a house on Secord Street With an old glass porch where the sun shines in It overlooks a field, Where the [F] daisies bloom in the [G] summer breeze Memories that the breeze blows in, I think about it now and then In a house on Secord Street, With the sweet, summer innocence of youth We picked daisies in the field The sun beat down, but the breeze was cool Crystal clear blue summer skies We watched the clouds go sailing by When we’d finally had our fill We turned around to climb the hill To the house on Secord Street With the sweet, summer innocence of youth You put the daisies in a jar Brought them to the summer porch Sunlight caught you in the door I’d never felt this way before You kissed my cheek and turned away And I remember to this day In a house on Secord Street With the sweet, summer innocence of youth Funny after all these years How a moment reappears Memories of that first kiss A moment of sweet innocence A picture frozen in my mind From a magic summertime In a house on Secord Street With the sweet, summer innocence of youth The sweet, summer innocence of youth The sweet, summer innocence of you…

Her Ex-Boyfriend’s Band Music and Lyrics by Jim Love She was walking down the street in Lindsay, When something caught her eye A name on the sign, a name that she knew, But babe it’s been a long, long time And why she bought a ticket for the show that night, She really didn’t understand She just knew that she’d be there to see – her ex-boyfriend’s band. And if she wondered why he hadn’t called her, To say he’d come to town, To be true, she really knew, How the deal went down. You see they hadn’t parted as the best of friends, But they did the best you can Now the tears are gone, but the show goes on for her – ex-boyfriend’s band They played some soul, some rock and roll and a little bit of blues They played some songs she’d heard before and some songs that were knew And sometimes she’d be lost in thought, sometimes she’d sing along But when the night was over and they hadn’t played that old love song Yeah the night is over, and it’s time to go She stood in the back and she wondered if she’d stop to say hello And maybe then, they’d talk like friends but they’d both understand She won’t hear that old love song from her ex-boyfriend’s band. They’ll play some soul, some rock and roll, and a little bit of blues They’ll play some songs she’s heard before and some songs that were new And sometimes she’ll be lost in thought, sometimes she’ll sing along But when the night was over, and they hadn’t played that old love song And maybe then, they’d talk like friends but they’d both understand She won’t hear that old love song from her ex-boyfriend’s band. No they don’t play that song no more in her ex-boyfriend’s band

Two and Two 03:19
Two and Two Music and Lyrics by Jim Love Two and two they don’t make four, they don’t do that any more Don’t you dare believe your eyes, they’re lying White is black and black is white, night is day and day is night I want to believe you babe - I’m trying But I’ve got a feeling, deep inside I think you know I know you lied What you do, and what you say Ain’t gonna make it go away When the sunshine turns to rain, and the pleasure turns to pain, And there you go, you go again, heart breaking’ I don’t know where it went wrong, we’re living’ in a country song But all the great ones have been done - they’re taken.. But I’ve got a feeling, deep inside I think you know I know you lied What you do, and what you say Ain’t gonna make it go away In that tangled web we weave when we’re trying to deceive I keep trying to believe, I’m hoping’ Sadly, though I’ve gotten wise, I’ve become what you despise I can see it now my eyes - are open Bridge Packing up and backing down, staying’ home and going to tow. I know what’s been going on, I see it Maybe if I set you free, when you’ve seen the last of me, You’ll find who you want to be – and be it But I’ve got a feeling, deep inside I think you know I know you lied What you do, and what you say Ain’t gonna make it go away Two and two they don’t make four, they don’t do that any more Don’t you dare believe your eyes, they’re lying

Hat and Boots Music and Lyrics by Jim Love Put on my hat and boots and ride, Ride away from these feelings deep down inside Cause there’s something in this town, You know it always finds me then it brings me down Think it over, she said While I sat there and wished that I was dead She said, it takes two to make love – but it only takes one to break love… Put on my hat and boots and ride Can’t escape these feelings deep down inside Yeah, there’s something in this town You know it always finds me then it brings me dow She said I just need space While I looked at my hands and felt so out of place She said, it takes two to make love – “why’s it only takes one to break love… Put on my hat and boots and ride Can’t escape these feelings deep down inside Cause there’s something in our love You’re in the air I breathe, you’re what I’m thinking of Maybe it just takes time, Find some bar where I can drink you off my mind Cause if it takes two to make love, and it only takes one to break love. Then I’m not sure just how much this heart can take love…

Where my heart wants to go Music and Lyrics by Jim Love Maybe I’ve been away too long, with far too long to go Maybe we’ll be talking, late night on the phone Even though I’m far away, I want you to know Anywhere you are, is where my heart wants to go Maybe I’ll be talking, about when I’m coming home Maybe we’ll go walking, late night in the snow And when I look into your eyes, I want you to know Anywhere you are, is where my heart wants to go It’s my job, it’s a living The way it is, it’s just a fact Whatever I do seems to take me away from you But my heart, keeps bringing me back Maybe I’ll be packing up, and staring into space Maybe I’ll look up to see, the sadness in your face Come and let me hold you tight, cause I want you to know Anywhere you are, is where my heart wants to go It’s my job, it’s a living The way it is, it’s just a fact Whatever I do seems to take me away from you But my heart, keeps bringing me back Maybe I’ve been away too long, with far too long to go Maybe we’ll be talking, late night on the phone I just called to hear your voice, cause I want to let you know Anywhere you are, is where my heart wants to go Anywhere you are, anywhere you are… Anywhere you are, is where my heart wants to go

Ordinary Man 03:25
Ordinary Man Music and Lyrics by Jim Love He was an ordinary man, with an ordinary life| With an ordinary job, two kids and a wife He had an ordinary house, in an ordinary town And the days went by, and the years rolled around And the sun came up in the morning, and the moon came out at night, And he lies in his bed, and he stares at the stars, and he thinks about his life In an ordinary place, on an ordinary day He met an ordinary girl, in the ordinary way And he gave her his ring, in that ordinary town And the days went by, and the years rolled round And the sun came up in the morning, and the moon came out at night, And he lay in their bed, and he heard her softly breathing, and he thought about his life In an ordinary year, on an ordinary day He held her by the hand, and he just slipped away And he looked into her eyes, as she was looking down He saw the days go by, and the years roll round And the sun still comes up in the morning, and the moon comes out at night, And she lies in their bed, and she stares at the wall, and she thinks about a life

about

Jim Love Ontario

I wrote my first song when I was about 14 with the line "write me, box nothing, Trans Canada Highway". A few months later, I ran away to Vancouver. The songs never stopped.

In my 20's a Juno nomination and gold album as a writer for a kid's band. A couple of musicals live and on CBC and a series of songs.

After 40 years I'm back with some of my best songs. Never too late.
